MUSIC AND SILENCE – CB with DAVID JURITZ

Following our Music and Silence a year ago, we are delighted to be able to offer a further programme of music and silence but this time with the addition of solo violin and violin with solo voice in addition to a cappella four part singing. We invite you to create positive silences with us with the music arising out of and falling back into silence. The music will include Bach chorales and solo violin, Morales, J Handl, Victoria, Byrd, Tallis, Tchaikovsky and Harper. There will be a retiring collection for Musequality, a local charity taking music projects to some of the poorest children in the developing world. www.musequality.org

COMPOSERS PRESENT – VOICES OF CHISWICK BAROQUE

Gillian Pillans, Shelley Smith and Oliver Hinton sing Celia Harper’s settings of WB Yeats poems written for solo voice and violin. Michael Schofield, viola player in the Bridge Quartet is picking up his fiddle for these pieces as part of the Composers Present concert at St Peters Church, Hammersmith W6.

MASS FOR CHILDERMAS DAY

CB will be at the Church of the Holy Innocents, Paddenswick Road, W6 taking part with St Peter’s Singers, handbells and organ in the third Patronal Festival Mass to include Celia’s Mass for Childermas Day commissioned by the Church of Holy Innocents for 2009.

COMPOSERS PRESENT CONCERT

CB will be at St George’s Church Campden Hill, Aubrey Walk, W8 singing as part of the Composers Present programme of accessible tuneful contemporary music by the composer members of CP. CB will be singing Celia’s most recent commission a setting of Psalm 84 together with three pieces by Julian Dawes: “I have loved thee with an everlasting love”, “Lord how glorious is your name” and “The Priestly Blessing”.

POSTPONED-CONCERT FOR ARTHUR HAFFENDEN FUND

REGRET THIS CONCERT IS POSTPONED We are delighted to be able to give a concert for the Arthur Fund at St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, W6 on Saturday 15 October 2011. This will be a typical CB miscellany of old and new and will include the long-awaited premiere of Celia’s commissioned setting of Psalm 84 “O how amiable are thy dwellings thou Lord of Hosts”.

JUNE CONCERT FOR WYE VALLEY MUSIC

On Saturday 18 June 2011 Chiswick Baroque will be giving a 5 voice a cappella concert for Wye Valley Music in Newland Church – the Cathedral of the Forest. The programme will span roughly ten centuries, right up to some 2011 compositions including settings of poems by Forest of Dean poet F W Harvey.

MUSIC AND SILENCE

At St Saviour’s Wendell Park Church, Cobbold Road, W12 CB will be giving a time of Lent musical meditation with sacred music arising out of silence and falling back into silence providing space for personal reflection. Music will include works by Victoria, Tallis, Byrd, Bach, Morales, Tchaikovsky, Messaien and Harper. This can be a Saturday afternoon break from the bustle of life. We will invite donations to Musequality (www.musequality.org) to further their work in music education for very underprivileged youngsters

CELIA HARPER SETTINGS OF W B YEATS POEMS

12 February 2011 saw Voices of Chiswick Baroque with Cathy Schofield (violin) premiering settings by Celia of 7 Yeats poems for solo voice and violin. Ros Keating, Shelley Smith and Oliver Hinton sang with Cathy Schofield from the bleak “He hears the cry of the sedge” to the wistful Cloths of Heaven” and the jovial “Fiddler of Dooney”. This was as part of a Composers Present concert. We are hoping to include these songs in a Chiswick Baroque concert soon,
